About the Senior Managing Director - Executive Talent Acquisition and Growth Initiatives

The Senior Managing Director - Executive Talent Acquisition and Growth Initiatives for B. Riley Advisory Services will work closely with our CEO and executive leadership team to acquire impactful, senior-level talent, including Senior Managing Directors and Managing Directors, for B. Riley Advisory Services. B. Riley Advisory Services is looking to grow by bringing on senior level seasoned professionals primarily in the restructuring and turnaround management business, forensic accounting and litigation support practice and due diligence / transaction advisory services. In some cases, this may include hiring small teams or supporting in due diligence activities as part of an acquisition process. In addition to directly sourcing senior leaders, the Senior Managing Director - Executive Talent Acquisition and Growth Initiatives will develop strategies and structures to ensure a steady pipeline of executive-level talent with whom Advisory Services can engage as need or opportunity arises.

Additionally, the Senior Managing Director - Executive Talent Acquisition and Growth Initiatives will be tasked with developing internal initiatives and programs to enhance culture, collegiality, and cohesion across the business as well as identifying and shaping externally-facing, brand-enhancing activities and relationships on behalf of B. Riley Advisory Services, to improve engagement and enhance the firm’s reputation in appropriate arenas and circles both in Atlanta and nationwide, wherever the firm operates.

The Senior Managing Director - Executive Talent Acquisition and Growth Initiatives may also have the opportunity, depending on interest and suitability, to partner with the Executive Search & Interim Management division of B. Riley Advisory Services, on revenue generating searches with external clients. Our Executive Search & Interim Management division, B. Riley Farber, works with private equity and venture-backed companies, founder-led and family-owned companies, and global corporations to identify senior leaders for permanent executive roles, interim and fractional engagements, and Board appointments.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Talent Pipeline Development: Proactively identify, engage, and recruit senior leaders from the professional services sector, particularly at the Managing Director and Senior Managing Director levels. Utilize both traditional recruitment tactics and innovative approaches such as initiating acquisition discussions with smaller firms to bolster talent acquisition efforts.
  • Strategic Networking: Leverage and expand a broad professional network within the professional services industry, including boutique advisory firms, financial services entities, and global management consulting organizations, to source top-tier talent and explore talent acquisition opportunities.
  • External Engagement & Brand Enhancement: Execute strategies to elevate the firm's brand and reputation among potential candidates and industry peers. This includes managing external communications and engaging with professional networks and communities to position the firm as an attractive destination for senior-level advisory professionals.
  • Internal Culture Building: Implement internal programs, groups, and events that promote a collaborative and enthusiastic workplace culture. Focus on initiatives that enhance employee satisfaction, encourage professional growth, and facilitate qualified referrals from within the organization.
  • M&A Talent Acquisition Support: At the direction of the CEO and leadership team, provide support in pursuing potential M&A opportunities to acquire boutique firms.
  • Technology and Innovation: Effectively leverage technology and innovative practices in recruitment and networking to stay ahead in attracting next-generation professionals. Embrace digital tools and platforms for effective engagement and communication with talent pools.


Essential Qualifications

  • Emotional Intelligence: High EQ, with the ability to intuitively grasp both explicit and implicit motivations, building lasting relationships across all levels of the organization, with the right talent, and across the wider industry.
  • Charismatic Leadership: Exceptional communication skills and executive presence, capable of inspiring respect and attention across various mediums, audiences, and settings.
  • Professional Services Experience: Significant experience in leadership roles within the professional services industry, such as accounting, advisory services, management consulting, legal services, or executive search. A proven track record of success is critical.
  • Talent Landscape Expertise: Deep understanding of the talent pipeline in professional services, including the pathways to senior leadership roles, along with a track record of acquiring senior-level talent for leadership roles.
  • Extensive Professional Network: Possesses a wide-reaching and influential network within the professional services sector, recognized for both breadth and depth of industry connections.
  • Culture and Community Building: Demonstrated ability to develop internal programs that foster a strong organizational culture, engage employees in meaningful ways, and enhance employee desire to make referrals and support recruitment efforts.
  • Technology Acumen: Understanding of and ability to leverage critical technology platforms for talent acquisition success is preferred.
  • M&A Understanding: An understanding of M&A, particularly acquisition due diligence and integration, is a plus.


Role Location & Working Arrangements

  • Senior Managing Director - Executive Talent Acquisition and Growth Initiatives - will be a hybrid role working out of our Atlanta, GA office.
