Controller

Toronto, ON
Our client is a privately held, Canadian Family Office that owns and manages a diverse multi-billion-dollar portfolio of operating companies across multiple industries in Canada and internationally. With a fast-paced entrepreneurial culture rooted in trust, accountability and stewardship, their underlying operating mantra has enabled them to grow quickly and responsibly.

This firm operates with a long-term, buy and hold strategy and provides strategic oversight, financial management, and operational support to their portfolio companies. As the organization grows and continues to refine its oversight model, it is seeking a hands-on and strategically minded Controller who will report to the CFO and collaborate closely with members of the ownership family, the portfolio company leadership teams, external consultants, vendors and service providers.

The Controller will be responsible for managing day-to-day financial operations across the holding entities, including the family foundation. They will play a key role in managing the financial reporting, corporate reporting and budgeting process. The Controller will lead the consolidations process, enhancing the quality and timeliness of reporting, and provide the Family Office leadership team with visibility into the performance of the portfolio companies. They will also oversee payroll, tax filings, and support special projects in M&A and capital deployment. The Controller will act as a thought partner to the executive team, instigating and supporting transformational and strategic initiatives.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a tight-knit, high-integrity environment that values intellectual curiosity, autonomy, and long-term impact. The head-office is located in a prestigious tower in Toronto’s financial district, where they offer a flexible hybrid working environment.

  • Challenge and support portfolio company finance leaders on reporting packages, regulatory filings, and insurance quality controls.
  • Evaluate and optimize systems and workflows, as well as budgeting tools.
Candidate Profile:
  • CPA designation with 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.
