Chief Operating Officer (COO)

As such, Sussman is seeking a seasoned Chief Operating Officer (COO) with deep operational expertise, proven leadership in scaling businesses, and global experience to join their executive team.

The COO will work closely with the CEO to operationalize mid- and long-term plans, ensuring that all business aspects are aligned with the company’s growth goals. This role will strategically support scaling the business, managing international operations, and fostering an inspiring and motivational work environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategic Leadership & Operational Planning:
  • Strategic, right-hand partner to the CEO, adding exceptional leadership to the executive team.
  • Translate the CEO's vision into a comprehensive three-year operational plan, with clear yearly targets, tasks, and milestones.
  • Develop and execute scalable processes across all business functions (including operations, marketing, finance, HR and legal), assessing their gaps and resource needs.
  • Present and defend the operational plan to the CEO, based on real-world experience.
  • Continuously monitor the progress of the operational plan, adjusting where necessary to ensure targets are met efficiently.
Project Oversight & Management:
  • Oversee and continue to develop a robust project management function, ensuring all global projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard.
  • Meet regularly with project managers, ensuring teams are well-prepared to execute projects.
  • Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, providing guidance and development to project teams and managers.
Team & Corporate Culture Development:
  • Inspire, motivate, and build a positive corporate culture, aligning it with the Sussman brand.
  • Drive engagement, team building, and motivation across the organization.
  • Manage subject matter experts with accomplished careers, identifying individual strengths and opportunities for development, whilst building highly effective teams.
  • Create a culture where employees feel encouraged to challenge themselves, innovate, and deliver results.
  • Understand global cultures, demonstrating empathy and diplomacy in managing diverse teams.
  • People leader who is pragmatic, action-oriented, and able to handle multiple complex situations calmly and effectively.
Client Relationship Management:
  • Represent Sussman in executive circles, building and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Host clients and stakeholders, demonstrating a deep understanding of client needs and preferences, ensuring positive and professional interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, management or related degree required.
  • MBA or related advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven and successful track record in operational leadership, with specific experience in scaling businesses as a COO.
  • Global expertise a strong asset.
  • Exceptional leadership, project management, risk management, strategic planning, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A track record of success in developing and implementing business strategies that drive growth and revenue in both small to medium business and corporate settings.
  • Strong team leadership experience managing complex, multi-disciplinary teams, and a deep understanding of team and culture building, as a motivating and inspirational leader.
  • Professional services experience required.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with a sense of urgency.
  • Detail oriented and hands on.
  • Exposure to financial management, budgeting, HR, sales & marketing.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE:
  • Experience: 20+ years of operational leadership experience, including 10+ years as a COO or similar senior operational role. Proven experience in scaling small to medium businesses is essential.
  • Business Background: Track record from both corporate structures and entrepreneurial settings. Experience managing finance, marketing, HR, sales, and operations.
  • Leadership Strengths: Complementary to the CEO’s skill set, providing operational leadership and adding value to the CEO’s vision.
  • Strategic Planning: Big picture thinker, develop a 90-day plan, annual plan and long-range multi-year plan.
  • Global Business: Demonstrated experience in leading international operations and managing global teams and projects.
  • Client-Focused: Highly experienced in building and maintaining relationships with high-level executives, clients, and partners. Comfortable representing the company at senior levels. Solid project management expertise with ability to manage complex situations.
  • Team Builder & Leader: Credible, inspirational, and able to direct, motivate, and build high-performance teams.
