Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

Riley Farber’s executive search practice is partnering with a growing, Canadian manufacturer of customized products and aftermarket services within the sport facilities, educational establishments and public facilities markets. This search is for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to be located at the head office in Southern Ontario.

The business is growing and evolving and to enable our client to reach their full potential, they are searching for an exceptional and motivated CFO to join their team. As they continue to grow organically and through M&A it is imperative they hire a strategic yet hands-on financial leader to ensure the infrastructure of the business is scalable for future profitable growth and success.

Reporting to the CEO, the CFO will play a crucial role in ensuring the multiple business units across Canadian and US territories are operating to their full capacity. The CFO will interact regularly with the new Private Equity ownership group to ensure that strategic initiatives are progressing while providing in-depth reporting, insights and direction required to assess and evolve strategy. Take an active role in M&A and in particular integration post-acquisition, onboarding as well as standardizing processes and procedures.

The CFO will take a leadership role in creating accurate and timely financial and management reports , key performance indicators and analyses providing best-in-class financial stewardship as well as driving  operational efficiencies and effectiveness. Develop sophisticated financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes together with business unit leaders to provide key data for decision making and ensure alignment with business goals. Manage day-to-day accounting and finance needs through a small and disparate team, remaining hands-on leading from the front whilst developing their capabilities and building careers.


This is an operational CFO role, actively engaged in the operations of the organization as a business partner to the senior leadership team. As the business plans to scale and double in size, the finance leader will provide foresight to infrastructure and operational needs to support that growth. To be successful in this, you will possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in commerce, Accounting, or related field; CPA designation required, MBA an asset.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in finance leadership roles, developing strong teams and working cross-functionally with an operational mindset.
  • 5+ years’ experience, at a senior level, working for a manufacturing/distribution company, ideally with additional experience in aftermarket services.
  • Experience or exposure to US sales/clients/currency exchange required as this is a cross-border business growing in the US market.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in cash management and treasury, interacting with banks and investors as well as other external stakeholders.
  • Experience with job costing, fixed asset management, risk management, and enhancing profitability within a growth-oriented environment.
  • Solid experience integrating and upgrading systems, including ERP,  improving and digitizing workflows creating efficiencies in order to scale.
  • Proficient in building high-performance teams through effective hiring, mentoring, and development strategies.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Understands business operations intricately, engaging at a hands-on level, and recognized for adding value beyond functional expertise by collaborating closely with management teams on strategic and operational matters.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical conduct.
